London Living with an Alternative Twist!

We Are FSTVL.

Last weekend saw We Are FSTVL bringing 15,000 people into my lovely little hometown of Upminster, so of course I couldn’t miss it being on my door step.

Our day began at 8am when we sneakily went and parked the partner in crimes car as close to the venue as possible so if we missed the last shuttle bus back to the station we didn’t have to fork out for a cab.  They always jack up the prices for festivals and I’m not going to pay silly money for a 5 minute journey home!

By 10am we had hopped on the shuttle bus from the station and were on site, well, being held for them to open wristband exchange.  By 11am we had wristbands, and were in the queue to get in past the sniffer dogs, bag checks and body search.

We had a good wander round to see where the stages were, what food was available and a little browse around the few shops they had there.  We grabbed a mini pizza and bought some drinks tokens.

The Speakerbox tent had our favourite artists of the day as we headed there for a little dance.  DJ Fusion’s set was amazing, throwing in so many genres of music and kept us in a fairly empty tent for the full hour!  We had a few more wanders, sat out in the sunshine by main stage and got a little sun burnt!

It was then time for Rudimental, and we were lucky enough to be in the front row. That photo isn’t even zoomed in!  Their set was out of this world!  I took a few videos and will be sure to upload them here when I work out how to!   They played all of their biggest hits, had us all doing the harlem shake and just going crazy in general!  One of the best DJ sets I’ve ever seen, and they’ve come on so much since seeing them at South West Four last summer!

It all then started to go down hill from there!  The set list we purchased was totally wrong, so we ended up missing Modestep, but we did find a great new act called Monsta.  We were so fed up with having to queue at the bar for water as they had stopped all food vendors from selling soft drinks, and trying to work out what was happening with acts on the the stage that we were home with a kebab by 9pm!

By the time our phones had regained internet connection we found out Modestep had been moved to 00:30 after Subfocus, thanks for letting us know We Are FSTVL! Having the band tweet isn’t’ good enough in a field without internet!!

Will we return next year? Unlikely.
