They say you learn something new every day, and I’m sure this will be tour new fact for today; what you have for breakfast can alter the way you sleep!
Silentnight sleep expert Dr Nerina Ramlakhan said: “”Eating breakfast within 30 minutes after waking up is one of my golden rules. So many people who struggle to get out of bed skip breakfast and become reliant on caffeine to get them through the day. Eating breakfast within 30 minutes of waking sends a message to the brain that there is adequate food in our environment and creates the ideal internal chemistry for optimal sleep. Nerina even has her own special breakfast recipe, Nerina’s Nutty Granola!
Not only do porridge topped with nuts and seeds, or eggs with wholemeal toast or natural yoghurt with muesli and fruit help you sleep better they fuel you for a better day, help reduce stress and improve your immune system, they can also improve your skin! If you’re a fan of egg; boiled, scrambled, poached or fried, eggs contain lutein, a carotenoid antioxidant which helps to preserve the skin’s elasticity and protects skin cells from free radical damage. Bet you didn’t know that fact either.
Also, by having breakfast, you’re less likely to snack which means it’s better for your heart, and you have more energy so you’re more likely to thrive at the gym. So in turn you’re fitter, healthier and your brain focuses so much better!
I’m all about sleeping better, so now knowing that eating breakfast helps out I will certainly be keeping it up as mentioned previously, I’m new into the world of breakfast but I’m loving porridge mixed with a (large ish) spoonful of Nutella and yummy granola with some low-fat strawberry yoghurt stirred in.
What’s your favourite breakfast? Or do you skip it?
