Are you getting ready to pop the question? Maybe you have it all planned and you just have to choose the ring. Traditionally, a diamond engagement is a true expression of your love and devotion – and it’s something she is sure to enjoy showing off. But, what makes a diamond so special?
Buying a piece of diamond jewellery is quite an exhilarating experience, especially when it is a diamond engagement ring you are shopping for. It is by far the most romantic and significant of purchases you will make. So, that being said, you may be wondering what all the fuss is about. Different people have different answers as to what makes a diamond ring so special. Some say it is the perfect symbol of their commitment and love; others love the rarity and durability of diamonds; others think it is a combination of all of these factors.
Diamonds Are Nature’s Miracles
There are plenty of stunning diamond engagement rings in Sydney that will take your breath away. We believe that diamonds truly are a miracle of nature. They are a mineral made from carbon atoms. These atoms form diamond crystals using a combination of pressure conditions and the right temperature in the earth’s upper mantle. The very specific formation conditions are exactly what give the stones their supreme durability, hardness, and their stunning optical properties.
Diamonds are mined in an array of locations around the globe and the amount of diamonds that just one mine can produce tends to be limited. What’s more, the qualities of the stones mined around the world can also vary. In fact, just about 15% of production of diamond rough has a good enough quality to be cut and used in rings. This tiny percentage is sent to a cutter where the design is planned and the diamond is cut to maximise its beauty and brilliance.
Once the diamonds have been cut, they are sent to a gemological laboratory to be graded by several graders. The grades are then recorded on the diamond certificate and the plat of the diamond is noted. The certificate will include a grade for the famous four Cs:
Clarity – from Flawless to Included3
Colour – D to Z
Cut – Excellent to Poor
Carat weight – how much the diamond actually weighs rounded to the closest hundredth of a carat.
It is important that your chosen diamond engagement ring comes with a certificate from a reputable gemological laboratory which means you should also be able to trust the jeweller you are buying the ring from.
What Does This All Mean?
It is the combination of grades of the diamond’s quality that determine how rare and valuable it is and what makes the entire ring so special. However, when it comes down to the crunch, the most important point about your diamond engagement ring is not the Clarity or weight of the Carat, it is the fact that it is symbol of your love for the one person you want to spend the rest of your life with.
