London Living with an Alternative Twist!

Barullo *

If we said to you, we were invited to try Argentinian food and wine, you’d think we ate lots of steak right?! WRONG! They actually happen to do damn good lamb and seafood too!

We were lucky enough to be invited down by Wines of Argentina on the opening night for an incredible evening of cutting edge Argentinian culture at Barullo, a four-day event in Hoxton celebrating the very best of Argentina’s wine, food, music, and art. Sadly the event has now come to an end, but I had to share with you what we drank and ate so you can get tickets for next time around!

We had the opportunity to sample a hand-picked selection of over 40 wines from the country’s most revolutionary winemakers, share in the expertise of some of the world’s top sommeliers and sample small plates from world-famous Argentinean chef Mauro Colagreco’s two Michelin-starred Mirazur restaurant.

I fell a little in love with this label, you go sassy wine woman!

Alongside the stunning wine and food, we got a feel for the vibrancy of contemporary Argentina with music courtesy of Ibiza Pareo and Coiffeur and bespoke art from Buenos Aires Barro Gallery, who filled the wall space with pieces from some of Argentina’s most celebrated artists. We really enjoyed the music!

But then, the evening got a whole lot better in the shape of a four course meal…

We began with an amuse bouche of crab and avacodo, and then moved on to…

Scallops with pumkin and coconut milk. Everyone say around us was literally licking the bowl clean, it was that good!

For mains we had Patagonian Lamb Confit with sweet potatoes, dates, caramelised shallots and seasame sauce. You only needed a fork to eat this as it fell apart and melted in your mouth. THe courses just kept getting better and better.

The dessert was ‘Naranjo en Flor’ Sospel’s St Josephs Saffron with almond foam and orange sorbet, nope, I have no idea what the first bit was either but I assure you it tasted amazing. I could eaten a few of these had I not been so full!

But they brought out more in the form of Petit Fours which were a lovely way to end the nights.

Thank you so much for an incredible night and for the slight headache I awoke to on the Wednesday morning!
