London Living with an Alternative Twist!

Bloggers Sleepover Fun with Generator Hostels *

When it comes to staying in hostels I’ve only done it once, and that was in a private room for a review as I have this preconceived idea of what it’s going to be like. Let me paint the picture I have in my head for you… the rooms are small and grimy, you’re sharing with a bunch of strangers who are going to steal everything you’ve got with you, the toilets are beyond saving and the food/drink is awful. Yep, not a great image is it?!

That was until I got invited along to spend the night at The Generator Hostel in London. They were hosting a blogger sleepover and looking to change our perceptions of hostels, for those of us that were a little unsure of the hostel life!

I am so glad I said yes, shook off my fears and took the 10 minute walk from work over to Tavistock Place last week to join Katy, Milly & Leanne in perfecting the best sleepover crew that hostel did ever see! The amount of effort that went into this event was amazing, it’s certainly up there in my most favourite!

I was the first of my roomies to check-in so I took the chance to snap away before we broke lose! The room was really spacious, with drawers for each bed so we could keep all our items neat and tidy.

There was an abundance of hooks and hangers around the walls by the door to hang coats and hand bags.

And there was also a lovely goodie bag for us to take away with us; we’d been royally spoilt with Lush Bath Bombs, posh chocolate, discount codes for London tours, face masks and so much more!

Our evening fully began with a quick chat about what Generator Hostels stand for, where they are in the world (literally every cool city!) and how they’re branding themselves as a ‘Poshtel’ – yes, a posh hostel which I can totally see from staying there.

We then moved on to the crazy hands on stuff…

Yes, you guessed it, we were cocktail making! In teams of 3 we shook, stirred and sieved our finest cocktails that will soon be available on the menu at Generator London. We even had homemade popcorn vodka. Of course. I wasn’t able to try this but the incredible team behind the bar had a mocktail all ready for me to make, which warmed my heart completely!

There were two cocktails we made up first; one of which used a blow torch which was beyond fun, and I think I need my own one at home for making cocktails look super professional! I’m not entirely sure I should be trusted with one though.

After cocktail making, I got to make my first ever pancake! I know, I made it 27 without making a pancake which is crazy but I’ve never been the biggest fan of them. This was great fun though as I managed to cook, flip and catch the pancake without any disasters, shame the same can’t be said for Katy! We had such a great laugh with this and decide to keep the laughter flowing on into the bar.

We were boring adults and skipped on the Camden Pub Crawl as we had work in the morning, but we did thoroughly enjoy the food we ordered which was really reasonable and great flavours for the money. We then grabbed some drinks, a totally crazy Diet Coke for me, and we got fully stuck into a game of Heads Up with my roomies and Fran.

After calling it a night we wandered back to our room for some shut eye. Of course, that was after the typical girlie sleepover chatter.

If I’m totally honest, I did struggle to sleep at times during the night as we were located close to the night door, and people were coming and going at all sorts of times but this wouldn’t stop me from staying at Generator again as I has such a fantastic evening.

Wow, this looks very fancy for a hostel!
I’ve always avoided hostels too to be honest, but stayed in one last year in Paris (someone else was in charge of booking!) and actually it was great , so Id definitely consider them again in the future!
