Stop Pretending Fitness Is For Others *

*This is a collaborative post.

Urgh, fitness. It is almost like a swear word, especially if you’re not a gym-addict. However, there is more than vanity to fitness. Looking after your body and keeping it strong is not just for the likes of Instagram selfies. Your body is the only one you get, and if you’re going to keep it for longer, you’d better start taking care of it. Therefore, fitness activity is a necessary evil, even if you’re not the kind of person who enjoys getting sporty. Ultimately, regular workouts are all about maintaining your health, both physical and mental. Your immune system becomes a little stronger in the process – which means you can finally wave goodbye to the yearly winter flu – and your brain even thinks quicker. Additionally, exercising releases serotonin, which helps to boost your mood. In short, you may not fancy the idea of starting a fitness programme, but it can benefit you in more ways than you know. However, the first rule of getting fit is to stop pretending that fitness is a distant dream that only others can achieve.

I don’t have the energy to go through workouts

It’s not that you don’t want to exercise – okay, there is a bit of that too. But you don’t have the energy to finish a workout. First of all, you need to stick to workouts that are suitable for your fitness levels. If you haven’t exercised in years, perhaps that joining your local marathon team is a little ambitious for now. However, you can help your body to push through and finish your workout with a dedicated pre workout supplement that gives you all the power you need. Additionally, you can’t hit the ground running if you don’t build a nutritious diet in the first place. Energy balls, made from fruit and nut butter, are filled with yummy proteins that make you feel energised. Oatmeal is a fantastic boost too.

I’m too tired to run

Your body needs rest to exercise. But sleeping is a lot more complicated than it seems. Did you know that over a third of the British population complain about sleep troubles? If you’re going to make the most of your resting time, you need to know a few handy tips to fall asleep quickly. First of all, your mattress is your best friend. You can’t sleep comfortably on an old mattress. Make it your priority to change your mattress every 5 to 8 years. Additionally, less screen time before bed can help your brain to relax. In short, turn the TV and smartphone off one hour before going to bed.

Going to the gym makes me feel lonely

It’s hard to make friends when you’re on a treadmill. Besides, if you have to reject social invitations to attend the gym, you might start to wonder whether fitness is worth feeling lonely. The answer is no, of course. Getting fit shouldn’t make you feel miserable. But if the gym isn’t for you, there are social activities you can try, such as salsa classes. Indeed, dancing lets you meet other people and become part of a community, which not only keeps you fit but also happy!

Nobody is asking you to become the next British athlete. However, maintaining your fitness levels has many benefits. It helps your immune system to get stronger. It slows down the ageing process for the body and the brain. It lifts your mood. And it makes you feel more confident. Ask yourself: Aren’t you worth a little fitness?
