Top Secrets to Making Your Jewellery Look New *

*This is a collaborative post.

Tarnish is the enemy! Tons of things can happen to your jewellery to dull its appearance. You might spend too much time in the water or in the sun. You might keep it on while you’re applying lotions or perfumes which can also diminish its quality. While your pieces might not be brand new, there are ways to keep it looking that way. From silver to gemstones, here are a few top secrets to making your jewellery look like you just bought it.

Use Baking Soda (for silver)

There are a number of ways you can clean silver jewellery, but one secret way is with baking soda. To remove tarnish from your pieces, you can make a paste. For this, you’ll need about a ¼ cup baking soda and two tablespoons of water. This is really all you need! Then you take the paste and apply it with a damp sponge to your silver jewellery. Luckily for you, this isn’t the only way you can clean your silver jewellery. If you don’t have baking soda, you can use other household items.

Use Dish Soap with Water (for gold)

If you’re looking to clean your gold jewellery, get ready to wash the dishes – or act like it! There’s one key product you need to remove the tarnish from your gold jewellery, and chances are you already have it. Dish soap works wonders in cleaning gold jewellery. And the only other thing you need is water. In a bowl, put about one tablespoon of dish soap and then fill the rest of the bowl with warm water. Now, all you need to do is let your jewellery sit in the mixture for about 15 minutes. Once all this is done, scrub it with a jewellery brush. If you don’t have a jewellery brush, don’t fret! You can easily get this done with a soft-bristled toothbrush.

Use Dish Soap w/Alka Seltzer (Gemstones)

You might prefer diamonds to gold, and if you do, there are easy ways to clean your gemstones. Whether you’re working on emeralds, rubies, amethysts, or more, all you need is some dish soap and Alka Seltzer. You can essentially follow the same steps as above. Create a mixture by adding Alka Seltzer to water. Afterwards, combine it with one tablespoon of dish soap. Allow your gemstones to soak for approximately 15 minutes. Once this is done, wipe your stones clean with a dry cloth.

Jewellery is a great way to elevate your look, but if it’s lacklustre and tarnished, it will instantly do the opposite. It’s easy to spot tarnished jewellery and trust us, you don’t want the looks of recognition. Instead, take some time out to take care of your jewellery. It’s easier and less expensive than you’d think. With regular household items, you can make your jewellery look brand new in as little as 15 minutes.
