This year we’ve all been spending more time at home than probably ever before. While it’s nice to get out for a meal, date nights outside the house aren’t a possibility for many at the moment.
Whether you’re stuck at home following restrictions, can’t get childcare or money is a bit tight at the moment, it can seem impossible to have a minute of romance with your partner.
But just because you’re stuck at home doesn’t mean you can’t still enjoy date night. There are so many things you can do together to have fun at home – just check out some of the ideas below!
Set sometime aside one night to craft a delicious dinner for the two of you to share. I’m not talking the rushed dinners you make after work – because
that’s only bound to cause more stress than romance – actually have a few hours to hand to do this right!
Pick something fun and hands-on to try, maybe something you haven’t tried to make before, like sushi or handmade pasta parcels! This shared experience of learning how to make something is a great bonding moment.
If all goes well, you’ll have a tasty dinner to sit down and enjoy together with some candles and wine! Bit of a kitchen disaster? Oh well, you’ll be able to laugh together!
There’s nothing like a bit of competition to get an evening going. Crack out an assortment of board games or card games and see who wins!
While some games will test your competitive streak, there are also plenty of video games where working together is required, giving you the chance to come together as a team!
Doing something arty can be a great date night activity that you can do together. Whether you get out the watercolours and try and paint each other or have a little competition to see who can make the best modelling clay animal, the possibilities are endless!
Date night is a great excuse to overindulge in your favourite treats, so pick a theme and try out some flavours to see what’s your favourite! Maybe you’ll enjoy a spoonful of five different ice creams, sample a few tasty chocolates or sip away on a selection of gins!
Whatever you decide to try, you and your partner can enjoy a fancy evening of taste testing and discussing your favourite treats!
A spa date is the perfect choice for those who like date night to be relaxing and romantic.
Pop on a robe, switch on some relaxing music and light a candle to get the spa atmosphere going. You can try your hand at whipping up your own face masks and scrubs together before the pampering begins! Lie back, relax, and don’t forget those funny cucumber slices on your eyes!
“How can we do that if we’re stuck at home?” you may be asking! Well, many museums have an online tour feature so you can nosey around galleries and exhibits for free from the comfort of your sofa.
Examples of places you can “visit” include The Louvre, The British Museum and The Vatican Museums. Why not enjoy a glass of wine together as you virtually visit these cultural spots!
There is always value in strengthening your relationship. If it’s been a while since your last date night, then it may have also been a while since you’ve properly discussed your thoughts and feelings together.
Even the happiest of couples have things that can be improved in their relationships, and it’s always better to work on any issues early on, rather than leave them to develop into damaging problems.
If you or your partner struggle to talk about your relationship unprompted, then there are online couples counselling videos that can facilitate your discussions.
