Choosing to correct dental issues as an adult can mean you have greater control of the options available to you, plus you are in a better position to look after your teeth and follow any instructions correctly.
One such treatment that can be carried out as an adult is to have braces—specifically clear aligners. However, unlike traditional braces, clear aligners don’t have that metal train track look synonymous with teenagers going through alignment treatment.
Clear aligners can straighten your teeth in half the time it takes with traditional braces. Traditional braces with brackets and wires require 12 to 24 months of therapy for the majority of people. Clear aligners can straighten your teeth in as little as six to twelve months.
It is worth remembering that not all misaligned teeth are suitable for correction with clear aligners. Therefore, when choosing teeth aligners, you should always consult with your dentist first to assess your suitability.
Clear aligners, unlike traditional braces, are not affixed to your teeth. Instead, they are worn for at least 22 hours a day and are placed over the teeth. This means you’ll be able to eat and drink without them. They are also comfier than traditional braces. However, because the material is smooth and slightly flexible, the transparent aligners are free of the risk of cuts from metal wires and brackets, meaning your overall oral health will be greatly improved during the treatment.
Traditional aligners use a series of aligners to shift your teeth into their proper locations gradually. For around two weeks, each aligner tray is worn. You’ll move on to the next tray in the series after two weeks. As a result, you’ll only need to see your dentist once every six to eight weeks, on average.
You’ll notice a difference in your oral health and wellness once your teeth are straightened. This is because brushing and flossing straightened teeth is easier. In addition, because you’ll be able to reach every surface of your teeth to eliminate food particles and plaque, you can enjoy the benefits of improved oral health during and after the use of clear aligners.
Studies have shown that people who have poor or missing teeth due to medical reasons, poor oral hygiene, misaligned teeth or other dental conditions suffer greatly when it comes to being confident. In addition, the unwillingness to open their mouths to smile or talk and eat in front of others can damage mental health.
Undergoing treatment to straighten wonky teeth or replace missing teeth can drastically improve a person’s confidence and allow them to live a happier life. This is because they are no longer worried about how they look when they open their mouth.
When choosing to get teeth aligners, you need to ensure you fully understand the process and what is expected of you when you undergo the treatment. Unfortunately, there is no quick fix, although clear aligners offer faster results. The final result will depend on your cooperation and commitment to working alongside your dentist to gain maximum benefits.
