Are You Making these Top Home Security Mistakes? *

*Collaboration.

If you want your home to be as secure as possible then you need to make sure that you avoid these top security mistakes. If you don’t then you may find that you end up putting your entire property at risk and this is the last thing you need.

Posting your Keys Online

As a new homeowner, you may be tempted to post a picture of your keys online. Unfortunately, this is a huge mistake. Thieves can upload this information to a key-cutting service, and this makes it very easy for them to simply order a duplicate key for your home’s lock. If someone just walked into your home, this could well invalidate your insurance policy, so avoid doing this if possible.

Leaving your Rubbish Out

If you put the box for your brand-new TV outside, then you are advertising that you have these kinds of items within your home. This is the last thing you need, as it essentially makes you a target. One tip that will help you to keep your home safe from burglars would be for you to buy a box cutter and then break down your bigger boxes. You can then bundle them together in a way so that the labels can’t be seen.

Posting Holiday Pictures

Did you know that 40% of people admit to posting holiday pictures, or photos when they are out of town? Putting your holiday pictures online could well get you a lot of likes but it also notifies people that you are away from home. This can make your property a prime target and this is the last thing you want.  One way for you to work around this would be for you to wait until you get home to post your beach selfies, and to make sure that you set your Facebook profile to private, rather than public.

Not Having CCTV

If you don’t have a solid CCTV system, then this will make you a target as well. Criminals tend to avoid houses that have top-notch alarm systems as it is more of a risk for them. If you want to make sure that your home is as protected as possible then one thing you can do is contact some CCTV installers, as they can work with you to make sure that you get a system that reflects the overall level of security you are looking for.

Letting Flyers Build Up

Did you know that burglars often look for newspapers piled up in the driveway? Some of them may even leave a flyer for pizza in the front door so that they can see how long it is going to take you to remove it. The main reason for this is that having a pile of flyers left out often indicates that you are on holiday or away from home. If you do need to go away then make sure that you ask a neighbour or a family friend to see if they would be willing to remove them for you, so you do not make your home a target.
