Where to Eat in… Shropshire!

Shropshire is up next as we bloody love spending a week here every January, and we tend to do a lot of little day trips out from where we stay so we get to try a lot of the local areas food!

Our firm favourite in Shropshire is Bishop’s Castle Hotel, where we’ve now had two Sunday lunches and a weekday lunch and never been disappointed. The service is always top notch and it seems when we went back this year they had really upped their game with presentation too.

When in Ludlow we made a stop for lunch at The Church Inn, we’d walked past here a few time son our yearly visits to Ludlow but never stopped! We wanted a light lunch as we were having an early dinner so this was a great spot. We had jacket potato skins filled with tuna and cheese whilst playing a game of scrabble on the table. Service was great and the atmosphere was so so nice!

We love Wednesday nights at The Crown Inn in Clunton, but if you’re going, get there early. It’s such good value and the food is amazing. The fish is in the crispest, fluffiest batter that is far from greasy and the chips are cooked to perfection. It’s a huge portion but you just have to eat it all as it’s so good. A fun fact about the pub too is that when it closed before all of the residents clubbed together to buy it, and one family run it now so it’s truly the hub of their community.

Other places well worth a mention are The Boar’s Head in Bishop’s Castle; great service with ovely homemade foods. The kitchen in Powis Castle had full to the brim sandwiches and the jacket potato’s we had at the Small Breeds Farm Park and Owl Centre in Kington.
