Middletons Steakhouse & Grill first opened its doors in Middleton, Norfolk in July 2011, which explains their name quite nicely. Their most recent opening is now in Chelmsford, Essex, in the city centre. This stylish steakhouse restaurant is welcoming from the minute you walk in the door with their stylish decor and friendly staff. All of the meat used at this branch, and all other branches, is delivered fresh every day from their very own butchery in Middleton ensuring everything is as fresh as it can be and of the highest quality.
As we perused the menu I order the Encantador Tempranillo Syrah red wine that oozed with red fruits, blackberries and freshly ground pepper which complimented my meal very well. My dad ordered the Vina Edmara Pinot Noir Velvet that’s raspberry fruit and rose petal flavours worked well with his meal tool.
We ordered two starters from the A La Carte menu which we placed in the middle and shared as we both wanted a little try of both! Dad’s main selection was the Garlic & Chilli Prawns that were served in such good garlic & chilli butter, white wine, lemon, and two slices of warm sourdough on the side. The portion size was a lot bigger than expected so we got a few prawns each and really good dip in the lush sauce!
I selected the Veg & Halloumi Skewer which were made up from such well-grilled halloumi, peppers, onion & mushroom drizzled with a herb marinade. The halloumi was cooked to exactly how I like it; it’s gotta be pretty well done to get that crispy coating!
We both really enjoyed this dish, especially my dad who wouldn’t usually order a veggie dish but he was raving about the halloumi and herd marinade!
For mains, I did a naughty and ended up ordering meat when I arrived with full intentions of keeping to my flexitarian goal for this year, but after reading the menu the flexi bit really kicked in and I went full blown meaty!
I ordered the Steak & Spice which was a 6oz sirloin steak with a piri piri chicken breast on the bone. The steak was cooked to just how I like it as I can be quite fussy when it comes to steak and the chicken was better than Nando’s. There I said it; the marinade was nicer, the chicken breast was a better size and it was so much juicer!
With the main courses, you got one side so I had the chips and I also ordered a side of green veggies. Both were really nice and I emptied my plate! I didn’t even need to use the ketchup I asked for as the chips, with a little of the peri peri from the chicken were more than tasty.
Dad went for a similar meal option with the Steak & Sticky where he had a 6oz rib-eye steak with a half rack of sticky BBQ ribs topped with a chilli and spring onion garnish. He said that his steak was cooked to how he wanted and the ribs were delicious!
For his sides, he ordered the dauphinoise potatoes and an extra side of onion rings. He said the potatoes were a little too garlicky for his taste as he’s not huge on garlic but I had no issues with them at all! The onion rings were lush too!
We had a really good meal with such attentive service. We even noticed our lovely waitress take a mans meal away to keep it warm whilst he popped to the loo which we thought was a really nice to do!
Middletons also over a Sunday Roast for less than a tenner and a fixed price menu of 3 courses for only £9.95 available Monday to Friday from 12pm through to 6pm and even on a Saturday from 12pm to 5pm. We’ve both decided we want to come back to try the set menu, so we’ll see you soon Middletons!
