London Living with an Alternative Twist!

Giving our Second Bedroom a New Lease with a Coastal Theme

As you all know we have plans to sell up the flat and buy our dream house between us, but that won’t be for a good six months to a year yet. Due to that, we are gradually freshening up the flat so when it does go up for sale it’s looking it’s very best. We love the master bedroom after having added a faux fur blanket, some new bedding and a few extra cushions to give it a bit more of a homely feel. My bathroom has a wonderful nautical feel which won’t come as a surprise to many knowing my love of coastal destinations and mermaids.

We love that coastal feel so much, that we’ve decided to bring that theme into the second bedroom as it can make the area feel so much bigger and lighter. Our room is currently a very deep red, as pictured above, which is going to be a little tough to get rid of but we want the walls to be a very pale blue, almost white in fact as we feel it’s a little more inviting.

Although the window in the room is fairly big, I do think that with the deep walls, it’s a little dark in there at times. Especially when we are working late in there and have to have the light on and blind shut. Our current blind is awful so we’ve been looking at wooden blinds on Direct Blinds as they’re slated so we could tip them up so the light from outside can also come in but people outside can’t see in.  These will also work really well when we have people stay over so they can let the light in but not be seen whilst changing. I’m very tempted to have the Prime dark blue blinds made to measure to really keep in with the coastal theme.

Our desks are both very dark which we are thinking of changing up too, and they’re also very cluttered so that means we could get desks with better storage options. We do need a hell of a lot of storage which is another of the reasons to why we are giving this room a new lease of life. I’d love some wicker baskets, a few extra sets of drawers and maybe even a treasure chest to keep in with the theme.

Even though the room doesn’t have a bed in it all the time, just a blow up one for when friends do stay, it’s a perfect excuse to pick up some nautical bedding so it all matches when we do have the bed out! I’d also change up the artwork in the room to be a little more coastal friendly; I’m thinking of wooden paintings, lots of anchors and keeping it light.

As much as I’d love to live by the sea in my own coastal retreat filled with blue decor, plenty of nautical nic-nacs and a view to die for, we will have to make do with our second bedroom giving off that vibe for now.
