So I think I’m a little obsessed with bucket lists; having to round up my 30 before 30 within the next week or so, I’ve started thinking about what I want to add to my next lists. I’m obviously going to start a 40 before 40 at the end of this year but in the process, I’ve realised that there are lots of things I’d like to do once I’ve retired and Mike and I have all the time in the world!
But what is on my retirement bucket list?
Ok, so I’m kicking off with the most boujee on the list and why the hell not?! An around the world cruise has been on my lisrt since I first heard that it was a thing! I want to do the 200-day cruise that departs from Miami all the way round to New York visiting the likes of Columbia, Mexico, Peru, Chile, Argentina, Uraguay, Brazil, into Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Vietnam, Japan, Russia… ok you get the idea, you go everywhere. This is one trip that I know will cost a lot of money, but as it’s a lifelong dream I’m more than prepared to work hard to save enough to have the best time.
I stole this one from my parents as they did an incredible trip down the Nile on a tiny little boat that looked unreal. The reason I want to do it when we retire is that I am SO bad in the heat, I just moan about it constantly and I’m hoping that as I get older I get used to the heat and moan less. I want to see the Pyramids of Giza, the Valley of the Kings, Luxor’s Karnak Temple and everything in between. The Egyptians literally blow my mind and I want to see all of it in the flesh. I just hope they’re still there when I have the time and can cope with the heat!
I was lucky enough to go on a press trip on the Orient Express back in 2013 and it blew my mind. I so want to take Mike to do it but I want to sleep on board and not hop off in Paris as I did before. It’s just so luxurious and I really do think it’s something that should be on everyone’s bucket list. I’ve also just recently finished reading ‘Murder on the Orient Express’ so it’s back at the front of my mind. The food was unreal, the bar cart came complete with a pianist, the rooms are the cutest and I just want to experience that with Mike as I know it’s something that he will really enjoy.
If you know me, then you’ll know that I often work with a few charities that mean a lot to me and I’d love to give more time to them when I don’t have to work and earn pennies! I’d love to dedicate a day or so a week to spending time helping those charities out in person. Of course, the likes of Dogs Trust are on my list to help and I’d love to be able to bring some love to those poor doggies lives and Anthony Nolan as I’d love to get youngsters signed up to the register and to see how they really can save someone’s lives without much work.
So I think I need to win the lottery before I retire, right?!
