4 Ways to Brighten Up your Bathroom *

*Collaboration

Does your bathroom feel dark and dingy? Are you looking for effective ways to brighten up the space? Then you’re in the right place!

Here, we explore four ways to make your bathroom feel lighter and brighter.

Enhance natural light

Firstly, try to maximise the natural light entering the room.

If you’re doing a renovation project, this could involve fitting new, large windows that flood the space with light. We recommend opting for frosted glass for privacy.

Skylights are another fantastic option, as well as clerestory windows placed high on the wall.

If new windows aren’t an option, make the most of what you already have.

This may involve decluttering the windowsill and removing any large or bulky blinds that block some of the light from entering the room.

Use different types of lighting

You can use many types of lighting in a bathroom, including overhead, task and accent lighting. We recommend opting for a mixture of lighting types that complement one another.

For instance, you could install LED spotlights overhead, as well as low level strip lighting around your cabinets, underneath shelving or along the bottom of the bathtub.

Illuminated mirrors are also a great option, as they serve as a stylish focal point for your space while providing practical task lighting for grooming and make-up application.

Choose light and bright colours

Opt for a light and bright colour scheme that creates an airy and spacious feel when designing your suite. Creams, whites, light greys, pale blues and sage greens are all good choices.

To create a cohesive space with depth of colour, choose three complementary shades that sit beautifully with one another, such as cream, sage green and gold.

You can then distribute these shades throughout your space using the 60-30-10 rule. This involves using your most dominant colour across 60% of the room, your secondary colour in 30%, and an accent colour in 10% of the space.

Introduce reflective and opaque surfaces

Use materials that will reflect the light in your room, creating the illusion of a bigger, brighter space.

For example, installing a large mirror opposite or next to a window is an easy and effective way to make your space appear lighter.

You could also opt for glossy paints or wall tiles that bounce light around the room. Glass is another effective material as it both reflects light and allows it to pass through, creating an open, airy feel.

We hope these tips have given you some interior inspiration for creating a beautifully bright bathroom!
