Where to go for the Best Off-Season Travel *

Planning a holiday during the off-season can be a rewarding and cost-effective opportunity. Along with avoiding the family crowds that flock to tourist hotspots during the school holiday dates, you could access high-end resorts at a lower price point.

Whether you’re going solo, with a group of friends or as a family, here’s how to enjoy some of the trendiest destinations outside of their peak tourist periods.

Winter Wonderlands in Europe

Europe’s capital cities and charming towns have plenty to offer during the winter months. With many hosting festive events and Christmas markets from mid-November onwards, there’s no better way to kick off your winter celebrations.

In February, destinations like Venice offer a magical atmosphere. If you’re lucky, you’ll see mist rising from the canals in the early mornings.

By night, restaurants keep the doors and windows closed and invite you into a cosy, lantern-lit atmosphere with friendly service. Visiting in winter makes a welcome change for those who prefer to explore at a gentle pace.

The Mediterranean in Spring

During spring and autumn, countries in the Mediterranean region boast pleasant weather. With many coastlines still offering warm sea temperatures too, it’s the perfect opportunity for off-season beach travel. We recommend travelling from late March through to late May.

Travelling during these months offers cheaper flights, discounted accommodation and fewer crowds. You’ll also benefit from mild temperatures that never feel too hot. For example, the weather in Turkey is cooler from November through to March, but you’ll still enjoy warm sunshine in the middle of the day.

Autumnal Delights in Greece

Greece offers warm weather throughout the calendar year. If you’re looking for an escape that promises opportunities for sightseeing, learning and beach activities, it won’t disappoint you.

Glistening sands, deep blue seas and porcelain white buildings shape the characteristic Greek landscape, but there’s so much more to this country than meets the eye. Along with thousands of islands, Greece boasts ancient ruins that tell the tales of past civilisations.

From thinkers like Plato and Socrates to sculptors like Myron and Phidias, visiting Greece will immerse you in definitive cultural history.

Southeast Asia during the Monsoon Season

While the monsoon season in Southeast Asia brings increased rainfall, it also promises luscious landscapes and fewer tourists.

Whether you stay in a beachside hut or hike between several destinations, you’ll discover the unique delights of the wet season. The people, wildlife and their natural environment come alive with sound and colour.

Between April and June, destinations like Bali provide a balance of manageable weather and reduced crowds. Borneo stays relatively dry, but we still recommend packing a poncho or two!

The Caribbean’s Low Season

The Caribbean’s off-peak months, typically from June to November, offer affordable travel options and serene environments.

Tropical islands like Jamaica provide exceptional beaches and a range of activities to enjoy, all without the typical tourist influx. However, it’s aways crucial to be aware of the risks of the hurricane season. No matter the month you travel, water safety on holiday is paramount.

Since this low season coincides with UK school holidays over the British summer, it’s the perfect opportunity to explore the Caribbean on a budget.

Wherever you travel this year, just remember to do your research. With careful planning and savvy timing, you’ll get an exclusive break for less!
