Liverpool is one of those cities you have to visit at least once, and if you do make sure to visit the very best the city has to offer. Historical sites will always be the obvious spots to visit, here I wanted to present 5 activities I would like to do myself.

Mad Day Out Beatles Taxi Tours

You cannot visit the city of mythical Beatles and not take a crazy Beatle taxi tour. There are several cab tours offering this service, but there is no one more bespoken off than Mad Day Out. The tours can last between 3 hours to 7 hours, depending on how much Beatle’s universe you want to submerge into. The cab is a styled Hackney Cab decorated after John Lennon’s Rolls Royce. Visit the homes of the Beatles were they grew up and the locations that inspired songs like Penny Lane, Strawberry Fields and Eleanor Rigby. The 7 hour option might be a bit too much to stomach, visiting all of the possible places connected to the Beatles.

A history professor in the best style of Robert Langdon has mysteriously disappeared, and now you have 1 hour to figure out the truth. This can be a very fun experience to enjoy with friends or family.

A Free Liverpool Tour

Several agencies offer these free tours around Liverpool’s downtown and main sites, but SandeMans is one of the most enjoyable ones in offer. The tours begin at St George’s Hall and covers the Museum of Liverpool, the Town Hall, St John’s Gardens, the Victoria Monument and some other sites. These tours are offered for free with tourist leaving some tips at the end. Sandeman offers additional paying tours that can be a bit more intriguing. The Beatles to the Blitz tour starts with WWII city stories and locations, a visit to the Beatles homes and the Cathedrals.

A Walk through the Beach of “Another Place”

A walk through the beach cannot get more surreal when you encounter randomly placed sculptures of a naked man along the path and inside the tide. Antony Gormley’s masterpiece, “Another Place”, consists of 100 iron cast statues modeled after his own body… naked. The figures were installed in Crosby Beach of Liverpool along the wide beach, most of them hidden by the tide and already decorated in whatever the sea believes is its input to the art. A very surreal experience that you cannot live anywhere else in the world.

Visiting the Aintree Racecourse

The Aintree racecourse just outside Liverpool is one of the most spectacular in all of Europe. It hosts the annual Grand National Festival in April, this would be the World Cup of horseracing. What’s unique about this racecourse is the exiting course hosting a series of obstacles like fences, walls, mud puddles and even a sharp turn right by the Leeds Canal. Watching 30 of Europe’s very best magnificent horses go through these obstacles could be the most thrilling minutes. The best time to visit if definitely during the festival and betting on the Grand National Day can be extra fun even if you know nothing of horseracing, and I would suggest going on the second day during Ladies Day. Most women will attend in their best vintage looking outfits and crazy hats. Musical events, food, and drinks make this festival the best time to visit Liverpool.
