I headed over to one of the most in demand places in Essex at the moment for my dad’s birthday a few weeks back and thought I’d give it a little write up!
Shepherd and Dog is rather hard to get into, being booked up for weeks in advance, but we were lucky enough to get a table on a Wednesday night! When we arrived our table wasn’t quite ready so we had a drink in the bar, and was left waiting a little bit too long once the table was ready. Not quite the best of starts.
We then went to order our wine and they didn’t have what we were after so the Maître D pulled out all of the stops to ensure we had a wine to compliment our meals. I’m not a big red wine fan, but I would of happily drunk it!
The food was beyond words! They tailored the orders to suit me and my sometimes fussy taste, and the chicken was divine. Dad’s Mussel’s were in a sauce to die for, and mum’s meal was just as impressive. The winter menu certainly has something for everyone, and I would love to go back and try more.
To make up for being left waiting, and not having our wine, we were sent out a fish platter! This was so good I’d of willing sat and ate that just for my dinner alone! The staff worked stupidly hard and exceeded our expectations.
They even sent Dad out a birthday sorbet and sung to him! This impressed me greatly as dad had mentioned to the owner how great they looked in a previous conversation!
If you’re able to get a table, and want some proper English nosh, then make sure you give Shepherd and Dog a visit!
