When it comes to buying gifts for Mike, we always buy experiences as we think that’s the best way to go! We’ve done theatre tickets, gig tickets, drifting lesson, trips abroad and we, of course, love a hotel stay where we get to explore somewhere new. We do experiences for birthdays, Christmas and even anniversaries so with this anniversary experience I was tasked with finding us something different to do.
That’s when I got myself onto Red Letter Days to find something that Mike would enjoy doing but was close enough to not spend most of our weekend trying to get there and wasting valuable experience time!
I ended up picking a Two Night Hotel Escape for Two, yes I know, it’s not very out there, and different to the things we usually do, but…
I went with this as it means we getaway for a couple of nights, we could drive to the chosen hotel in just over an hour and there was plenty to do in the surrounding area that we hadn’t been to before! We are all about staycations, so why not use our anniversary weekend to cram another one in before the end of the year.
Booking our experience was super easy as you simply purchase the voucher from Red Letter Days and wait for it to arrive a day or so later in the post. It comes in a display wallet with a card so it looks the part when giving it as a gift. I then gave the card to Mike and told him to pick the place he wanted to stay; with me being me, I’d already done some research as to what was close enough to feel like a weekend away, and still be drivable within less than two hours. We agreed on one not too far from Guilford.
To book, I called the hotel, gave them the dates I wanted and it was all done! We just had to take our voucher along to hand over at check in and that was that. It was such an easy gift and we’ve discussed using Red Letter Days as more of our Christmas gifts this year as they are just so easy to organise.
We had a really enjoyable stay, and we were shocked to find out that our voucher also included breakfast so we made the most of that for sure! The staff were all really friendly, polite and helpful and we weren’t treated any differently from other couples and families staying there as I always worry when using a voucher you will be!
We got to explore the local area including Denbies Wine Estate, eat in the local pub and explore the wonderful streets of Guilford. We also ate dinner in the hotel which was such good food and really good value for money!
There are so many other experiences that we’ve looked into for family and friends this Christmas including Luxury One Night Stay with Dinner and Fizz for Two, and a Golf Masterclass with a PGA Pro and Lunch. It means we can pick great gifts with our family being able to pick dates that suit them!
