If you’re a frequent reader of my site then you will know that we spend a lot of time eating out in restaurants in London. Obviously, with having a blog we get invited to so many great places but we do also eat out of our own accord a fair amount too. This means I often get asked for my recommendations so I thought I’d pull together my top four for different occasions.
I booked up Duck and Waffle for my 29th Birthday meal with my parents and Mike. It had been somewhere we had all wanted to eat but never got to so I made sure to get online two months before and claim my date!
I was a little worried that it wouldn’t live up to the hype and we’d be paying above the odd prices for average food, but it really did exceed every expectation. The food was unreal and the service was second to none. We stared with some sharing plates of Spicy Ox Cheek Doughnut, Cured Salmon, ‘Nduja & Gruyère Bread and ‘Nduja Seared Octopus which we are so different. I would happily return just for the doughnut!
For main course Mike and Dad had the Duck and Waffle served with Crispy Leg Confit, Fried Duck Egg, Mustard Maple Syrup and Mum and I shared the 38 Day Aged 500g Angus Bone-in Rib-eye served with Charred Little Gem, Calçot Onion, Grape Husk Mustard and Caper Butter Sauce which was by far the best steak I’ve eaten!
I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Duck and Waffle if you’re looking for somewhere a little special!
Mike and I headed over to the Piano Works in Farringdon for a review back towards the end of 2017 and we had far more fun than we had ever expected. The Piano Works is a Victorian listed warehouse and it’s London’s only non-stop live music venue which is a pretty awesome thing to lay claim to!
From midday to 4pm on Saturday’s there is live music from midday with two piano vocalists followed by a full band at 1:30pm only playing songs requested by you. For £50pp you can have bottomless prosecco, bloody marys or mocktails and unlimited soft drinks for 2 hours plus a2-course brunch and your table until 4pm. For £35pp you are able to order all of the drinks from the menu plus a brunch box and your table until 4pm.
I’m not big into chains, I like supporting independent restaurants but as Byron has recently brought back the B-Rex with the launch of the C-Rex and V-Rex! It was one of my favourite burgers from about five years ago and they have just popped it back on the menu as a regular and not a guest spot.
The service is always good, you’re never far from a branch and they have some seriously good other burgers on the menu too.
