7 Fantastic Weekend Break Ideas With Friends *

*Collab

Going away with friends can be a great opportunity to catch up and create lasting memories. There are many different adventures that you can look into from city breaks to murder mystery dinners. This post suggests 7 ideas that could make for a unique and enjoyable bonding experience, whether you’re planning to get away with a group of mates or just your BFF.

City break

Exploring a new city with a friend could be a chance to combine pure travel and hanging out time. You could plan a staycation in an exciting UK city like London, Brighton, York or Edinburgh. Or you could look further afield and visit a city on the continent like Amsterdam, Budapest or Barcelona. These trips can be squeezed onto a weekend and you can split accommodation costs. It’s up to you whether you spend it sightseeing, shopping or going on an epic bar crawl.

Golf getaway

Visiting a golf course for the day and staying the night could be a great lads escape, but equally a great girls getaway if you like the outdoors and sports. Look for golf courses with luxury hotels on site. After a day spent on the golf course, you can enjoy drinks and food at the hotel.

Hiking expedition

Those craving a rugged rural adventure could consider a hiking expedition. You could explore the Lake District together, plan a long coastal walk or even climb a mountain like Snowdon. This could be combined with a camping trip, or a cosy stay in a local B&B.

Spa retreat

If you’re been under a lot of stress and your friend is feeling equally frazzled, a spa retreat could be a great way to spend your time together. This could be a single night’s stay at a local spa hotel or a multi-day retreat at a yoga camp in the sun. Such holidays make for great girls’ trips, but there’s nothing to stop guys planning a spa retreat either.

Wine tour

There are many wineries (including a handful in the UK) that provide tours and tastings along with overnight stays. This could be a chance to try wines and catch up. When it comes to wine regions abroad, you could even book a minibus or a private guide, and plan a multi-vineyard tour. This can make for a unique boozy break. Check out my itineraries here.

Surf camp

Never tried surfing before, but eager to give it a go? Surf camps are popular holiday options for thrillseeker friends. You can spend each day learning to surf and each evening eating out and drinking in local bars. You’ll find surf schools around the UK coast and abroad in sunnier locations like Portugal and the Canary Islands.

Murder mystery dinner

For a single overnight break you won’t forget, why not try a murder mystery dinner? This typically involves an interactive dinner with actors where you solve clues to try to find the murderer. Some of these murder mystery dinners take place in hotels, providing you with somewhere to stay for the night. You’ll find them all across the UK.
