This is a collaborative post.
One day, but not today, I will stop waffling about the home we are planning on buying. I have Pinterest board, after Pinterest board on what we’d like each room to look like. I’ve spoken about what I’d like my study area to look like, what I have planned for my garden and my current wallpaper obsession.
I haven’t yet told you about the big plans I’ve got for our future living room. As it’s the room we would spend a lot of time in after work, of a weekend and with friends, we want to make sure it suits us perfectly and has such a homely feeling. We want comfy seating, great artwork and for everyone to feel like they are at their home away from home.
We are total suckers for a very dark wall colour, especially in big rooms with lots of light. Our current bedroom is Stiffkey Blue from Farrow and Ball and it’s along this vein on colouring we’d like to stick to. We really like vintage looking rooms as often feel they give off quite a luxurious feel and more often than not they have very dark walls. Having stayed in hotels with dark walls and contrasting furniture has just made us want this combination even more!
We’ve looked quite heavily into vinyl plank flooring that gives the impression that it’s a real wooden floor as it’s such good value for money. Vinyl plank flooring is easily installed and requires minimal lifetime maintenance when compared to traditional wood flooring which really appeals to us. In some instances, vinyl can even be placed over existing concrete or traditional wood flooring making it a great option if you’re looking for a quick decor change too.
As the walls will be so dark, we would need to go with a very light flooring to reflect the light. We’ve looked a natural oak colouring, like the flooring pictured above, as it’s light but still has plenty of character.
My love for velvet sofas is quite ridiculous right now! I’d love a royal blue but I think that would be quite an overkill if we do go with dark blue walls! Scrolling through Pinterest I’ve seen some amazing turquoise and teal velvet sofas that work so well against the blue. There were even some mustard velvet sofas that look incredible against the dark tones.
The thought of having a leather sofa has been discussed but we’d love to have dogs when we have our future home. Dogs that will, of course, be allowed on the sofa for cuddles so the leather doesn’t tend to age well with dog claws! With having velvet it can be brushed clean or ever hoovered, plus there is the option of washing it which is really appealing.
As crazy as it sounds, I’d love for the artwork in our living room to be photos we’ve taken or painting of photos we’ve taken as I think that would be a great talking point. In my head, it’s travel photos of our favourite destination we’ve visited together and will bring back wonderful memories each time we look at them.
Do you have plans for your future home?
